WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
Laser stands for Light Amplification of Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser hair removal is the application of intense wavelength pulse of light to achieve permanent reduction of unwanted hair.
The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the energy produced by the laser. The energy produced by the laser destroys the hair follicle and prevents the hair from regenerating. Laser hair reduction is only able to permanently destroy the follicle if it is in the active growth stage. You will need several laser hair removal treatments on each area. For best results, the hair follicle must be darker than the skin to be effectively treated.
IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL PAINFUL?
During laser hair removal treatments, most clients will experience little to No Pain and a similar feel of a hot stone massage, a warming sensation especially of larger areas like the back and legs. Discomfort will vary from person to person because of skin tone, thickness of hair follicle and your personal level of pain tolerance.
For highly sensitive areas, some feel more of a quick pinching sensation, but don’t find it too painful. Laser hair removal is extremely tolerable for almost everyone especially compared to waxing, threading and tweezing.
HOW PERMANENT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
There is no hair removal method (including laser) which can guarantee “permanent hair removal”. The most accurate description of the results after laser treatment is “laser hair reduction”.
Which can lead to long-term results depending on the area and individual’s limitations. Results can vary because of several reasons including hair color, coarseness, skin tone as well as hormonal changes and other genetic considerations. Some clients will need additional treatments to achieve their desired results because of these reasons.
DO I NEED TO SHAVE BEFORE LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
YES! Please have a close shave on the treatment area. The area should be shaved as closely as possible so that laser can concentrate the energy on the hair follicle and not waste energy on the part of the hair above the skin’s surface. This will provide a better treatment and some clients also find that their treatment area is less sensitive during laser hair removal. You can shave every day.
Contrary to popular belief, shaving does not make hair grow back thicker, faster, darker or more profusely. So go ahead and shave before the treatment and between treatments! Please refrain from any hair removal method that removes the entire hair follicle such as wax, tweeze, thread, sugar, use depilate cream, or lighten hair follicles during laser hair removal. It will reduce treatment effectiveness. You must wait four weeks before receiving a laser hair removal treatment if you have used one the prior methods.
WHY WILL I NEED MORE THAN ONE TREATMENT?
Hair has three cycles of growth. The phases Anagen (growing), Catagen (regression) and Telogen (resting) are not growing together. The laser can only destroy the hair follicles in their active growth stage. Because of this, multiple treatments are needed so that each follicle can have a laser treatment in the active growth phase. On average 6-8 treatments are needed to achieve desired results for most individuals. However within the first sessions results are very noticeable with fine hair and less regrowth. Results will vary per client per area.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Immediately. The treatment areas have been destroyed and will no longer grow. They will fall out naturally between 3-21 days after treatment. It is recommended that you shave the hairs when they begin to reach the surface. Shaving will help exfoliate the skin helping the hair follicles fall out faster.
